Need Orvieto Hotel Suggestions

We will be arriving in Orvieto by train on a Thursday evening at 6:30 pm after flying in that day from San Francisco and training from Rome. The next day we get the rental car for our 2 weeks in Tuscany and Cinque Terre.
We need a moderate priced, clean, and quiet hotel for one night. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

In Feb 2003, my wife and I stayed at the Hotel Corso (http://www.hotelcorso.net/). Nothing special, but perfectly adequate. We paid EUR 70.

We stayed at this hotel in Orvieto a few years ago and it was fine:

It's very central and was clean, nothing fancy. Not much English was spoken.

If you put Orvieto into the search area on this forum, you will find suggestions from other travellers.

Orvieto is lovely, very atmospheric. Don't miss going inside the Duomo.

We stayed at Hotel Corso also and it was fine--fairly basic, but clean. It had a rooftop terrace and was quiet at night. It is just a short walk from the funicular to the Corso which you will use to get up from the train station.

sebinah,

We stayed 3 nights at Palazzo Piccolomini several years ago. It's a 4*, so I wouldn't really call it moderate at today's prices. Maybe check into it and see what you think. We were very happy with the palazzo and I would recommend it, if it's in your price range.

Give plenty of time to Orvieto, much to see and do. A special town!

Buon viaggio!

We stayed at the Hotel Duomo. Some rooms have a view of the Cathedral. Very reasonable and we enjoyed it very much. Can't beat the location , IMO.

I'll second Hotel Duomo. We stayed there in May 2005. To think we were appalled at the Euro's rise then!

Orvieto is terrific. Have fun!
