Need help with train ?

We are traveling to France for 2 weeks in September. Our first week will be in Paris, and then we have 6 days to fill in outside of Paris. We will have 2 small children with us, and thought that we would have to rent a car because of all of the luggage. this really limits our choices of where we can go however because of keeping the kids happy in the car. Does anybody know if there are porters available at the train stations in Paris to help with luggage, or is the only way possible to take a train is if you can carry all of your own luggage?

I think you can find porter service - - albeit limited perhaps, in the train stations of Paris. But finding it at your other destinations is another question.

The real question is, where else do you want to go in France? You can make a great itinerary in Normandy, and never move more than an hour by car on any given day. If you want to go south of Avignon, I recommend the train, followed by rental car, or fly directly to Nice, Montpellier or Marseille. You might be surprised at how competitive the airfares are within France on CERTAIN routes. Likewise for Strasbourg or Ajaccio (Corsica - - but I have never been there). Look into http://www.europebyair.com for some affordable options.

Best wishes,

Rex
Can't you stash some of the luggage in a left luggage locker? Most large stations have them. They usually accomodate suitcases.
