George,

You are so right!

And how is government able to confiscate your $$$$...through payroll deductions.

Ask the average American how much money they make every two weeks and chances are they will tell you their take home pay.

Want to start a taxpayers revolt, a 2nd Boston tea party...do the following:

Eliminate employer withholding and give each American worker their entire pay every two weeks.....and then ask them to write a check back to the government for their tax burden!

When they realize just how much of their hard earned $$$$ is being sucked into the State and Federal black hole ......then you would have a revolt!

US

Lou, I picked up my 5 Series this past June. You're going to love the way it drives and handles on the twists & turn and driving up & down the mountains and on the straight aways. Awesome!!

Only problem I had during the entire encounter was finding the shipping agent North of Munich, even though I thought I had good directions -- got lost and had to pay a taxi to show me the way -- boy, I was really lost.

Lou, You might want to consider dropping the car off with the shipping agent and then spending the last two days in Munich -- you won't need a car as the S-bahn will get you anywhere you want to go and taxi's are fairly reasonable.

You got to go to the Augistiner Keller Beer Garden near the main train station. Good food, and one of the best beers in Bavaria as far as I'm concerned.

Mark, thanks for the write up on Berchtesgaden. We enjoyed the suggestions for the walk to Konigsee as we enjoy the nature walks. Any suggestions for hotels in the area.

Mike, sorry you got lost, but that was a great suggestion to drop off car and leave Munich as last stop.

Boo, the only way I could afford the car was to go the European delivery route
Lou,

There are so many hotels for you to consider. Hotels are everywhere. With a car you have so much choice.

Since May isn't all that busy, I would suggest that you don't tie yourselves up with a reservation. Once you get into town, you will be able to find the travel office a minute or two from the trainstation. Get there during the day and you can easily pick up a hotel that will make you happy.

We have stayed at Hotel Bavaria in Berchtesgaden. I have stayed in a few others along the river and in a few of the bed and breakfast along the road that gets you to the saltmine. All of these hotels were found throught he travel office.

It's a 90 seconds by car from the trainstation to Hotel Bavaria. Without a doubt, one of the finest breakfast buffets that you will be eat off of. I was told by the owner that her kitchen has been ranked #1 in Berchtesgaden 3 years in a row. The breakfast buffet is supposedly the finest in Berchtesgaden as well.

Check out www.berchtesgaden.com for hotels. There are just too many when you include the smaller B&B's, pensiones, villas, and inns.

Have a great time.

I lived in Munich last year and year before and agree with much of info given. Füssen is one of my favourite towns and I know alot of foreign tourists do not stay there but do the Neuschwanstein day trip from Munich - I think staying in Füssen itself is worthwhile - Bad Faulenbach area , next to the main town. Or I stayed in one of the hotels on Hopfensee one Christmas - absolutely stunning views over the lake to the mountains. This is 10 minute drive to Füssen - check out web sites.
Just don't kill yourself by doing everything in 1 day , eg Zugspitze and castles - the cable car going up the mountain near Neuschwanstein is stunning anyway - go right past the castle and views are amazing, so you may not want to go up a second mountain anyway, even if it is higher. Personally I am not a huge Wurzburg fan - nice , but Rothenburg is nicer and would take that extra day in the mountains or Munich. As others have said Berchtesgarden has fantastic scenery.
