Thanks in advance to any advice/suggestion I get here on HOTELS. I and my husband are planning for a 18 day trip to Europe and I had posted our itinerary on this forum earlier and thanks to you all fodorites, we realized that we are trying to do a bit too much and we decided to modify our BUSY itinerary and now we decided to stay for 9 days in ITALY instead of 6 days.

We need your help to find budget hotels in Paris ( 4 nights), Rome ( 3 nights) , Venice ( 3 nights) and Florence ( 3 nights). We are ready to spend anywhere between 90E to 140 Euros ( 100 to 160$ max) per night.

Venice:

we were thinking of staying in Hotel Bologna as there is a good promotion going on and we can stay for anywhere between 99Euros to 245 Euros for 3 nights which is a real good deal. But many people on this forum suggested to look for a hotel in historic Venice to save time. So any suggestions of hotel under 100 or 120 Euros per night?


Rome:

We are really finding it hard to get any hotel in the heart of tome ( travi fountain and coliseum area) under $175. We contacted hotels like Marcus, Hotel Parlamento,

Only hotel that replied back to us was Julia and they are quoting 180 Euros. So can you please recommend few hotels in Rome that we can look at?

Also is it possible find hotels under 140Euros away from the central attraction ? is it a must to stay near the train stations? How is public transportation? Is it possible to get around if we don¡¦t know Italian if we stay far from the main attractions? any advice would be really helpful.

Florence:

We have 2 nights available at both Desiree ( 90 E) as well as HOTEL La Resedenza Proconsolo in Florence. From what I have been reading Proconsolo has a good review on tripadvisor. we are getting Proconsolo for 120 E a night for standard double and 140Euros for Deluxe double. This hotel has good reviews both on Trip advisor and here so we might go ahead and book this hotel if they have rooms available for all 3 nights for our dates.

I know Proconsolo is a bit more expensive but seem to have real good reviews and I liked the rooms on the website too. Has any one stayed recently at desiree or proconsolo .Which one would you recommend desiree or Proconsolo?

Paris Hotel:

we are thinking of staying Hotel De france and this Hotel seem to have good reviews on trip advisor and we are getting a double room for 98Euros which is well under our budget. Has any one stayed here recently? How was your stay?


we prefer to have rooms with private bath and our main concern is a safe and clean place to stay/sleep and a neighbor hood that is safe so we can go back without worries after dark ( 10 pm). We would prefer a quiet room but in Rome its too much to ask, so a clean and safe place is fine!! I know it's a lot to ask, any help would be appreciated.

The Nicolas Inn (a B&B in Rome very near Colosseum and Forum) might work, but the cost was 150 euros/night (around $180). The location was superb for us, and the owners were very helpful. We felt safe at all times (although we admit we weren't out after 10 PM either).

Is this Hotel de France Invalides in the 7th district or the Hotel de France in the 12th district?

I've read many good things about the Hotel de France Invalides both here and at Trip Advisor.

Florence: Residenza del Proconsolo

I haven't stayed at the Proconsolo (or at the Desiree) but I've read great things about it. The rooms look very nice and if I had a choice I'd go for it.

Thanks Francopile, yes it is Hotel De France Invalides. Ok if this hotel is good then probably we should go ahead and book this soon.

I have sent out a mail to Residenza del Proconsolo to see if they have rooms available for 3 nights. Hope to hear an yes from them.

How about nicholas Inn B&B in rome? I did a search on this forum looks like they are good!! any one stayed here recently? we have been having a real hard time in finding a hotel under 200$ in Rome. Every hotel is above 190Euro.

If any of you can recommend hotels or B&B under 150$ that would be of great help.

Wanderlust - If you look at my previous post to you on this thread, you'll see that we stayed at the Nicolas Inn and recommend it. We stayed there three nights last September and thought it was great. Let me know if you have specific questions about it.

Thanks for the update. I just got an reply from Nicholas Inn and unfortunately they only have double room available for two nights and we might either have to prepone our trip by a day or stay some where else for a night on May 19th.

It would be hard for us to reach Rome a day earlier as we will be visiting relatives in London before starting our vacation in Rome.

KC do you know of any hotel or B&B under 140 Euros close to Nicholas Inn so we can stay there for a night.

Sorry I can't help on that one. You might ask Francois or Melissa is they have a recommendation. They are quite upfront and helpful on other matters so they might be able to help on that one. Also check tripadvisor.com or venere.com.

In Rome, The Red Rose Bed and Breakfast is around the corner from the Coliseum. Very safe and relatively quiet location. Double room with bath is 82E per night and the rooms are fairly large by European standards. We were very happy there both times we stayed and would go there again.

Also, in the early morning if you sleep with the windows open you can hear the very low singing/chanting of the sisters in the monastary behind the building. It is a magical way to wake up.

For Rome, try the Daphne Veneto or Daphne Trevi. www.daphne-rome.com Very well regarded on tripadvisor (under B&amp;Bs). We stayed at the Veneto last March and really enjoyed it. 10% discount if you pay cash. They have a double room with private bath for 105 Euro. I got this name from Francois and Melissa of Nicholas inn. we are getting accomodation for 2 nights at NICHOLAS but we need to book another hotel for 1 day near Nicholas for 3rd night.

I would really appreciate if you can give a feedback on downtownaccomodations, so that I can go ahead and book Nicholas soon.

In Venice, I have a recommendation for an absolutley gorgeous 4-star place, modern Italian design (geometric shapes, dark wood), but it's at the far end of Venice proper (still better than on the mainland in my opinion). It takes about 15-20 min by vaporetto or walking to get to St. Marks. It has a wonderful breakfast buffet, beautiful bathrooms, and when we were there in the winter 2 years ago, it was only 99E a night for a double with king-sized bed.

You can book it through Venere and check out the comments at Tripadvisor.

I followed your link and was surprised to see the photo--this used to be a convent accomodation. My friend who always stayed told me that it had changed hands and now she had no inexpensive Venice place. How interesting!

We stayed at Hotel In Parione near Campo Fiori and Piazza Navona. GREAT location, small hotel. I just checked feedback on tripadvisor.com and all comments on correct. I don't recall how much we spent (in 9/05), but don't think it was over 120 euro.

ellenem--How interesting! I didn't know it's history, but it's a very quiet residential area, with nice park between the hotel and the vaporetto stop, so I can see how it would have been suited that pupose.

I just found their own website, and indeed--it says it used to be a convent and an old monastery is still nearby. I think it's real bargin for a 4-star in the off season, but the rates are quite a bit higher at other times. I found a couple of years ago that is was cheaper to go through the Venere site. I have stayed at La Resedenza Proconsolo in November
of 04 This was the most wonderful place we stayed on our 2 week trip. We asked for a laundrette nearby and the owners said no way &quot;Elena&quot; would take care of it. Our laundry was done that first day. We had the delux room overlooking the Dumo with a canopy bed and a jacuzzi tub. What a great place to relax after a long day. Have fun.

Has anyone stayed at Anne Mary B&amp;B in Rome recently? it is on Via cavour, 325 rome? how is it?
