Need help for vacation in Germany

I am hoping to go to Germany this fall(2004)
The town I most want to visit is Doerrenbach in the south western corner near France. It is a tiny town where my mothers family is from originally. Any advice on near by towns/accomodations/transportation? What is the best sirport to fly into? Should we rent a car? It will be my first trip to Germany.

As I said before on a previous posting, I would not consider this trip without a car.

I would look into flying into Strasbourg airport. One advantage there is that you can rent a Germany car (return with no drop charge anywhere else in Germany) or a French car (likewise for France).

What do you hope to get out of this trip?

Best wishes,

Rex

I would flt into Zurich because it has the most in ternational flights in and out.
Delta has a direct flight there from atlanta, as does american from Dallas
Post where you are flying from, and I can tell you which airline to go on

my opinion is that you may want to keep the flights to the least expensive so i would fly into frankfurt, usually the cheapest from the usa...i would rent a car and you will find accomodations very easily as you travel, except in cities...of course lots depneds on the time of year---oh yes you have said fall...october is beautiful in germany...if you go after nov 1 the price will drop dramatically...it will be cool however...get yourself a good guide book for beginners, like forors or frommers and it will help you...get one on all of germany...travel around germany is easy by car and also by train...a good car agency here in the usa is www.gemut.com in oregon
