Another vote for Balcon de Europa - even made the reservations via email. We had a junior suite overlooking the Med (although I think all rooms do). The suite was great and in March was only $120 per night. The food wasn't great at the hotel - but there are many restaurants nearby. Almost everyone else at the hotel when we were there was British - and most of the food reflected that (take that how you may...)

I just got back from Nerja and checked out the Paraiso del Mar while I was there. It is a lovely small hotel with a nice terrace and steps to the Burriana beach. I agree with Celeste; it is much more charming than the Balcon de Europa and probably less expensive. There are some great restaurants within a ten minute walk. My vote is definitely for the Paraiso del Mar.

Tana,
I too have been convinced by the raves on this site to visit Nerja -- can't wait! I realize you asked for a hotel, but I just found the most wonderful looking apartment rented by the week, in case you're interested. Check out http://www.angelfire.com/ca/nerjarent/

Libbie

Libbie, there are a lot of pretty developments like this in Nerja. The problem with Capistrano Village is that it requires a car to get to the old town and parking is sometimes a little tricky. If you want to rent for a week I can suggest developments that are within walking distance.
Tana, Nerja does not have train service but you can get to Granada by bus. I would recommend going on a tour bus which will obtain Alhambra tickets as part of its cost. You are not required to stick with a group; you are dropped off and told when to meet for the return trip.

Libbie, a few years ago I found a company on the net and took a chance renting from them. Our villa was prettier than we had expected. I have used that company twice more and everything has been perfect. Look at the availability chart at : http://home.nas.net/~jilclark/ You may want to look at the clients' comments as well. I have a preference for the east side of Nerja and don't like to be too far from the old town. If you don't see what you were looking for you can email Jil and tell her what you want. We have stayed at Aritza and Carabeo 70, both wonderful for different reasons. Rentals during the low or mid season are very reasonable. Adding an equipped kitchen and a washer makes it even better. Also in the fridge you will find milk, butter, eggs and bread. You may email me if you have further questions.
