Need Ben Haines Help Here Please
I've been trying to find out if anyone has knowledge of the Derby Hotel in London. It's a 3+* Hotel on Cromwell Road in Kensington. Looks very nice on the various websites I've looked at and discounted room rates seem very good. I have not found any previous comments about it on this board. I have narrowed my choices to the Derby, the Burns, London Elizabeth and Cranley Gardens from previous recommendations from Fodorites.

I really appreciate any input you can give.

Betty, since this is your second post on this subject, I'm going to assume you're pretty desperate to get some info. I have no personal knowledge of the Derby, but I did a search and came up with this lone post from '99.

"Author: Kim ([email protected]) Date: 9/20/1999, 4:52 pm ET
My husband and I just returned from London 9/18/99.
We stayed in South Kensington (right next to Earl's Court) and found it to be wonderful. There were two tube stations very close by (Glouchester and Earl's Court) - if you're staying for a more than a couple of days to a week, you'll definitely want to purchase a transportation pass for the tubes and busses. A zone 1 pass (most all sights are in zone 1) cost 15 pound - saves a lot of money, as you can use the bus or tube as often as you want each day.
We can VERY highly recommend The Derby Hotel on Cromwell Road. The hotel has been open for 1 year, although it is in a historic building. It is true that hotels are very expensive in London, especially with the conversion rate. Either a standard room or a suite at The Derby is lovely.
We got a special price for staying 6 nights - be aware that for anything less than 90 pound a night you'll stay in a dump. My husband wanted to stay around 70 pound a night and I did find a hotel (I use the term loosely) for 69 pound over the Internet -- The Stuart Hotel -- and it was a DUMP. We stayed there only 1 night, sleeping on top of the covers, until we could find another! We then found The Derby and it was heavenly, plus they have a wonderful included breakfast in the morning (hard boiled eggs, meat, cereal, rolls, fruit, etc.). The continental breakfast offered at other hotels is often just bread, juice, and coffee."

Hope this helps.

Sue, thanks. I'm not sure that desperate is the right word, but sometimes I've found you have to be persistent on this board to get answers! Much has been written about my other choices so I was hoping to find a bit of info on the Derby to help in the selection process. I really appreciate your help since I did not come up with anything when I did my search.
