Need advise for Naples area

I will be in the Naples area for 4 days in November and am looking for input on where to target my time (Naples? Sorrento? Capri? Pompeii?).

Also helpful would be information on good value places to stay. Especially around the airport in Naples. I fly out at 7AM and need to stay close by for the last night.

Thanks for your help

Good morning, Mike Have not stayed in
Naples, only Capri and Sorrento, however
would think that Naples would be your
best bet as you can take the train
to Pompeii and also the Sorrento, the
Boat leaves from the Maritime station
in Naples for Capri. I don't think the
airport in Naples is too far out of
town, but if you check these web sites
I am sure you can get the information,
you want.
The onlyu hotel, that I might recommend
but have not stayed there is the hotel
Castel dell'Ovo and Chiaia, Via Cuma, 42
have run across this name in bb's and
travel books in the past.
Here are the urls. to surf:

touristicsite.syrene.it/ (Sor. Pensulia)
www.napolivirtuala.com/ (Naples)
www.hotelguide.ch/ (It Hotels)
www.venere.it/ (It Hotels)
www.itwg.com/ (airports)
www.sorrentoweb.com/ (Sorrento)
www.napolinet.net/ (Naples?
www.marketplace.it/pompeiionline/
www.vesuviana.it/ (Cirumvesuviana)
www.italiaonweb.com/Sorrento
www.capri.it/
www.capri.net/ (Capri)
Good surfing, Richard of Hickory Hills, Il...

www.alitalia.it/english/service/scali.htm..
www.starnet.it/italy/
www.enit.it/
www.itwg.com/

Hi Mike

When we visited this area of Italy a couple of years ago we were based in Sorrento and this was perfect.

We spent a lovely day in Naples (less than an hour by train from Sorrento) but are glad we didnt stay there - as a much larger city there wasnt an area which had such an intimate atmosphere as SOrrento or such a choice of restaurants and we really enjoyed strolling through Sorrento each evening to choose and enjoy a restaurant.

Sorrento was a great base as it was central for all the sites. Rather than pay exhorbitant excursion costs we took the local bus to Amalfi and Positano one day, we took the ferry from Sorrento to Ischia (island next to Capri, and great if you are less into fashion boutiques). We spent a day visiting Vesuvius and Pompeii and the rest of the time really enjoying Sorrento.

I couldnt recommend it highly enough.

ENjoy your visit... I am jealous!!

Kavey

Hi Mike,
We've been to Naples, Sorrento and Capri several times. Sorrento is probably the easiest for a tourist friendly location, and easy access to Pompeii.
Capri is beautiful, a little more expensive and a little harder to get to Pompeii from.
Naples is big, busy, and not quite so Westernized as Capri or Sorrento. Of course, that's why we like it better! I have to admit, it's probably not for everyone, but if you want the real Italian experience, give Napoli a try. You should definitely stay there your last night, as the airport is less than 1/2 hour from town at that time of the morning. We always stay at the Grand Hotel Parker's.
email me for more.
Tom
