Need advise for Berlin, Dresden, and Prague
My wife and I are planning a 10 day trip to Munich to visit relatives in May-June 2000. While there we are thinking about taking a trip with my cousins (a married couple, also in their mid-40's) with the rent-car to Berlin (2 nights), Dresden (1 or 2 nights), and finally Prague (2 nights). I've been looking on the internet and in travel books for affordable ($100/night) hotel or bed and breakfast accomodations. My wife is a "Texas-gal" who is fussy about cleanliness, friendliness, and insists on having a bathroom in the room. My main concern is a parking garage for the rent-car, especially in Prague.
The Hotel California in Berlin and The Hotelschiff Florentina in Dresden look interesting.
Any recommendations or suggestions for Berlin, Dresden, and Prague will be appreciated.

I was in Berlin 10 days ago and stayed at the SAS Radisson Hotel Berlin, one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in in Europe. The rooms are large with a great bathroom. I found it through Travelnow.com for 232 DEM, about $130. Buffet breakfast was an extra 29 DEM which we thought expensive, but we had a choice of 100 dishes and took it every morning.
I stay always in the Ambassador, in the very center on main square Vaclavske Namesti, in walking distance to almost all highlights of Prague, but it is about 160 Dollar...
Dont drive in Prague. If you stay in the region I mentioned, park the car in the Parking of Kotva Department Store.
Zwi Schnabel (Israel)

Hi!
Make sure to tell the rental-car company in Germany that you would like to drive into the Czech Republic. You will probably need extra insurance; we rented from AVIS and it was outright forbidden. A friend of ours unknowingly tried to cross the Polish border with a Swiss rental-car. He was stopped by the border guards, the car was confiscated and he had to take a train from there.

We used AVE Accommodations at www.avetravel.cz for Prague. They have good listings and descriptions & some pictures. In Dresden we stayed at a cute little place called Gastehaus Hesse near our friends just south of downtown. It is at a ferry crossing and the river is across the street. It looks a little like a motel but cute and clean with breakfast for about $45/50/night.
You will love all three places! Be sure to see the Checkpoint Charlie Museum in Berlin and the Charles Bridge at night in Prague.

You will love Prague. We did a 21 day driving tour last fall and spent 3 nights in Praha. Yes be sure to tell the rental car company you will be going so that the papers will be in order. We had the largest car they allowed a Ford Mondeo station wagon. had absolutely no problems at the border, we paid for a stick shift with air, and all insurance $32 a day for the 3 weeks. We stayed at the Cloister Inn, a wonderful old place converted from Monastery across from the Police station in the heart of the city with walking easy to all cites. You do not want to drive once you get there too many one way and dead end streets (we actually drove through old town square by mistake). The hotel has private bath, with CNN television and very clean. Nice breakfast and was about $100 a night for a double with breakfast, parking was extra. They have an enclosed parking courtyard with the gate closed at night. They do have a web site, which I do not have handy now. If you cannot find it and are interested just email me. Do walk to the Jewish quarter, old town square for the clock, the castle, Charles Bridge and if time Wenselas square. It is a terrific city, with inexpensive wonder full and good shopping.
