Need a recommended chateau in Loire Valley

In July we'll be driving from Dijon and would like a chateau or other nice country style hotel to stay for two nights.
Private bathrooms a must and something bigger than five or six rooms.

<<and something bigger than five or six rooms.>>

I would highly recommend Le Choisuel in Amboise, but what do you mean by the above? That the place should be a larger establishment with more than five or six rooms to offer? If that's the case, then I do recommend Le Choiseul.

Sorry, I misspelled the Choiseul once, and spelled it right once - it's Le Choiseul.

That's precisely what I mean.

I'll check out the Le Choisuel. Thank you. How is the restaurant? If not good, are we obligated to eat there?

The restaurant is simply superb, as are the accommodations. For a fairly luxurious place, it's a bargain, too. And Amboise is a perfect base for visiting the Loire.

By reputation, le Choiseul is a luxurious, first class place, both for lodging and for its restaurant. I have never stayed there.

From my first hand experience (dining only), so is Chateau d'Artigny - - in fact, if there is anything much more visually stunning, I cannot imagine it.
the French perfume maker Coty sunk his entire fortune into creating this place, and you get to be the beneficiary.

I'm pretty sure you can find inernet addresses for both places, with a quick search on this forum (but don't get confused with Mas d'Artigny - - another fabulous place in the south of France). Let me know if you're having trouble finding either.

Best wishes,

Rex
Marty- Chateau De Rothcote (sp.) is wonderful. It's repped by Relais and Chateaus and it goegeous. Ovelooks a vineyard-has own chapel-rooms are beautiful. I don;t believe you have to eat there..We did and it was superb!

Andy,

Can you remember the name of the city for the Chateau de Rothcote? I understand that the spelling isn't exact and I'm trying to look it up.
Thanks, so much for the help.

To Andy (Imedlatoo):

This is quite a stretch, but any chance you mean the town of Rochecorbon (Rothcote??)

As in Les Hautes Roches? (prononced roughly "lay-z'aught rush" or "lay-z'oat rush" ("hautes" is somewhere between "aught" and "oat").

http://www.relaischateaux.com/site/u...e=hautesroches

and in the same town, http://www.montgouverne.com - - though with only 4 rooms and two apartments, it doesn't meet that size criteria that Marty stipulated.
we are preparing for our third stay at Domaine des Hauts de Loire in Onzain, a small ttown 1/2 way between Amboise and Blois. It is a perfect base for touring the chateaux and wine route. Superb parkland setting, excellent service and rooms, and gloriuos food and wine.It is so nice to relax after a hard days touring in a serene setting.
It is not cheap but we think it's worth the expense.
www.relaischateaux.com/hauts-loire

Marty and Andy--Maybe you are thinking of Chateau de Rochecotte, Saint Patrice - 37130 Langeais (Tel 02 47 96 16 16, Fax 02 47 96 90 59). We stayed there in October 1998, and loved it. The restaurant was wonderful--propbply the best dinner of our trip, and the fresh breakfast pastries.....unforgettable!
The chateau was allegedly about half hour's drive from Tours, but we were given alternate route instructions (to avoid some kind of student demonstration) and were lost for about three hours. We saw plenty of beautiful countryside!

Marty,
We have also stayed at the domaine des hautes de loire and loved it. We ate there both nites and it was wonderful. We also took the hot air ballon ride which was an experience. The room was beautiful and we also survived the killer swan! Have fun.
Also in Onzain, Chateau de Tertes - not a real chateau, but a nice country house. Much more reasonable than Domaine.

For a REAL chateau, see if Chateau du Gue Pean (probably 20 miles east of Chenonceaux) is still taking guests. Stayed there in '70. DOn't think it has more than 5 rooms however

Andy,

The Chateau de Rochecotte sounds great. Any clue as to their e-mail address? I can't seem to find Saint Patrice on my Fodor's map. Do you happen to know a nearby city?

Thank you, so much for your assistance. It is truly appreciated.

To the person who posted this last message, you're supposed to list YOUR name and address "there" - - not the person to whom you're replying.

And here you go:

Saint-Patrice - 37130 LANGEAIS - FRANCE
Tel : (+33) 2 47 96 16 16
Fax : (+33) 2 47 96 90 59
E-mail : [email protected]

http://www.chateau-de-rochecotte.fr/

And if you're not using Yahoo as your primary search engine, you might want to take a look at it.

Best wishes,

Rex
Dear Marty,

We stayed at Le Choiseul in Amboise and Chateau de Marcay near Chinon last November. Both have fabulous haute cuisine, excellent staff, and charming rooms. We had a trilingual chauffeur from the Acco-Dispo company who simply made our trip! He relayed all pertinent history, dealt with tickets, and took us on very scenic roads. They can customize your tours to your taste and schedule. Their website is AccoDispo.com. Bonne chance!
