Need a little help making plans to see Galicia, Spain
A former college friend and I are in the initial stages of planning a trip to a region in Northern Spain called Galicia. We want to go in August, which we hear is the least rainy month in an otherwise rainy region. Has anyone been there? We'll be in Santiago de Compostela for 3 days, but would like to get some suggestions on other areas to visit nearby to occupy an additional 4 days in the region. We'll have a rental car.

"Has anyone been there?" leads me to believe you are new to this forum. Most seasoned travelers on this forum not only know where Galicia is, but have posted extensively on the region. Pick up a guidebook, take some time and read what's already out there posted, and then post for specifics. And when you do, please include if you have any sightseeing preferences.

Good grief. I am indeed new to this forum. Are all people on this forum as scathing as you, triple-x person? I suppose it's easy to be rude when you are under the cover of anonymity. I asked an innocent question hoping to get some helpful feedback, not to insult anyone by asking if they had "been there" or to plan my itinerary...Simply looking for suggestions. I am sorry I inconvenienced you.

Constance,
I'm going to Galicia in less than three weeks. I only have a week and will spend 3 nights in Pontevedra and 4 in Santiago. I haven't figured out my day trips exactly but I'm looking at Tui and Coruna for sure.

I will be sure to post as much as possible when I return if it helps you.

You may also want to check out the boards at madridman.com. Be sure to do a search on keywords before posting and you can learn alot without even asking!

Constance,

I have tried to "top" a couple of my previous postings that include time in Galicia that you might find helpful. Try a search for more postings using the words Northern Spain or Galicia with the Spain country locater.

We have decided to spend 2 nights in Baiona as well as 2 nights in Santiago during our time there. Talking to friends who were in galicia, as well as all the fabulous help from Maribel and others, we are definitely interested in visiting Pontevedra, the Rias Altas and Bajas, Lugo and maybe even a daytrip to Portugal.

Good Luck! Please post a trip report when you get back so the rest of us (we aren't going until October) can hear about the highlights as well as, possibly, some sights you did not enjoy as much. Don't forget to include hotel and restaurant recommendations.

Maria
