I am having a hard time finding a hotel in Luzern for the dates that we will be there. <BR>I hear good report of Thun which is close by, but I do not know of any hotels there. <BR>Any help please?

About 7 years ago we stayed near Thun at a Best Western member hotel, Hotel Hirschen Gunten in Gunten. Hotel sits right on the lake and we had a nice, but small room, with an even smaller balcony which was right on the lake. Thun is not that close to Luzern though. It is closer to Interlaken. If you're looking for somewhere close to Luzern, you may want to try something near Furigen.

Carol, I'm sure that Thun has some dandy hotels; have you tried the Swiss National Tourist Office? They've got a good site, but I'm sure that the Berner Oberland (Thun's area) has a good site too. I'm sure you can find a list of hotels for Thun. http://www.thunersee.ch/en/unt/index.asp <BR>I just checked my bookmarks, and there it is. It really is a dandy place, but closer to Bern than Lucerne. If you'd like to be halfway between Bern and Lucerne, try Interlaken or Brienz. I'd recommend the lake town of Fluelen if you want to be right below Lucerne. My budget has always been tight, so I tend to stay in small two-stars. I'll be delighted to recommend them if you'll just post a note saying you need them. It would also be good to let us know if you're traveling by car or train/bus/boat (my mode). That will influence your stay-put locations. And, I do recommend staying put in each place three nights. JW

Carol: Try to find something on the Lake of Lucerne (incidentally called Vierwaldstättersee). <BR>Suggest "Vitznauerhof" in Vitznau. <BR>www.vitznau.ch <BR>Another nice village on the lake would be Weggis. <BR>Good luck.

Carol, hi again! Forgot to tell you about the nice hotel in Thun: <BR>Hotel "Freienhof". A four-star right in town. Very nice place. Sorry, I do not have their page on hand right now. But you will find it with www.google.com <BR>(try www.freienhof.ch or alike). <BR>www.thun.ch for further info. <BR>However, Thun is not that close to Lucerne.
