need A/C in Italy for early September?

I'm trying to book a hotel in Rome for early September, but hotel is charging extra for the rooms with A/C!!!!
Do you think A/C is neccessary during that time of the year?

Hi jj,

Will your trip be ruined if you have to spend two nights in a row unable to sleep because of the heat?

Hi JJ,

It is not unheard of to have hot weather around the end of Sept. Early Sept is very much still August.

Enjoy your AC.

How much extra did they want?

Well, going by last year's incredibly hot August/September weather in Italy, I would say that your room would still be quite warm in early September. However, I do remember a perceptible decline in the heat mid-September when the temps dropped and I felt Fall finally come into the air. We had a large fan in our Rome hotel room and there was no extra charge. I would not pay extra for A/C - you will be out of your room all day and the nights do cool down a bit so it is possible that you could keep your windows ajar at night and keep cool that way.

But that would depend on whether the street was quiet enough to sleep with the windows open.

WillTravel - so true! Or unless one is a deep sleeper it's no problema!

I don't suppose at this point it would be helpful to say that any hotel that charges "extra" for air conditioning might be one to steer clear of in the first place! I wonder if this same establishment charges "extra" for heated rooms in the Winter?

Being comfortable in any weather is basically an expectation and being cool in Summer is just as "necessry" and "civilized" as is being warm enough in the Winter.

I wouldn't risk not having A/C at that time of year and, if possible, I'd also look at alternate accommodations if necessary and feasible.

Hi single,

Many of the lower priced hotels charge extra for AC. They aren't necessarily fly-by-night.

Ira, hotel I book is Hotel Italia and they charged extra 8 euro per night for A/C. I guess it's not much but just wasn't sure if was common thing to pay extra for a/c in Italy and if it was worth it.

Also, have guys been to Hotel Itali? If you have, please tell me about your experince. Thanks (I wanted to book Hotel Miami, but they charge about 200 euro per night!)

Thank you guys for all your input!
