NE of Barcelona - Anything fun to do?

We are traveling along the NE coast of Spain into France. We would like an suggestions of places to see or things to do in northern Spain. We could have a car, if necessary. Ideas?

You mean, like, Basque country? The Camino de Campostela? It is fantastic.

You could head toward Zaragosa, first, which is a pretty neat city, then Pamplona, then San Sebastian.

If you refer to NE of Barcelona, you are aiming at the Costa Brava coastline. In that case, Cadaques is a good goal. A car is necessary. On the way, Girona and Figueres are two interesting stops. Figueres Dali museum and Dali's home in Cadaques are fun take-ins. Playa del Sol hotel in Cadaques is quite nice, situated on the bay with good sized rooms with balconies looking back toward down...and an easy walk to the center.

Last October we were in Barcelona, then we rented a car & drove up the Costa Brava, making several stops along the way, before we reached Cadaques, which is beautiful! We also spent 2 nights in Girona.

We stopped in Tossa de Mar, S'agaro for lunch, made a quick stop at Calell Palafrugell. Stayed overnight at Playa del Sol in Cadaques, which Stu recommends, & it is lovely. We had some of our best meals in Cadaques. Visited Dali's house in Port Lligat & drove to top of Cap de Creus.

After sightseeing for a day in Girona, we drove through some of the Pyrenees, making interesting stops along the way. You can click on my name to read my trip report for more details.

The link above is to my trip report of our time in Barcelona and the Costa Brava. We did not go to Cadaques on this trip, but I second all the recommendations for it. Overall, BCN and Costa Brava are great destinations. Enjoy them.

We loved Costa Brava! There is a great guide-"Directions: Costa Brava", which we even downloaded to our iTouch. The botanical gardens in Blanes are worth a visit. Tossa de Mar was a lovely town, especially the medieval walled town. One can hike up along the coast and get beautiful vistas. We had a great lunch at La Lluna. Girona is well worth a day. Great food at Bistrot. The Dali museum is great. Cadaques--fabulous--wish we had more time there. Enjoyed Pals, too. So much to see and do in this region!
