It should be mentioned that you can only purchase a ticket on the bus by using your telephone.

Can you use something like Apple Pay instead of buying tickets?

You know like London Underground and buses?

With a daily limit if you use the same card?

No.

You can download either the Bonjour RATP or the Île-de-France Mobilité app, use various payment methods to load credit in your app, then transfer fares to a Navigo card.

Late model Samsung phones have card circuitry built in such that the phone replaces the Navigo card, eliminating the need to purchase/carry a card.

I should qualify my previous answer because the Navigo Liberté card functions very much like the London system but, payment is made monthly by RIB (not credit card). Anyone with an EU bank should be able to sign up for the Navigo Liberté.

What about contactless cards that Europeans tap everywhere?

So are credit and debit cards.

Probably using the same smart card tech.

Issue is whether RAPT wants to make normal credit/debit cards and NFC interoperable, as the TFL has.

Paris is not London. The RATP makes it possible to use your smartphone to use public transportation. If you want to use smart card tech, apply for a Navigo Liberté + card.
