Naples Underground
Hello. My wife and I are going back to Naples for one day in November. We are trying to figure out the Underground tours but are a bit confused after having corresponded with a few of the companies.
I've found threads talking about Napoli Sotterranea and it sounds like people like that one a lot. http://www.napolisotterranea.org/index2.asp?lang=EN
I've also found reference to Napoli e la Citta Sotterranea. http://www.lanapolisotterranea.it/
I think most of the tours are just in Italian.
Silly question, but are there in fact two different tour companies or are these different websites for the same company? When we asked questions via email we get responses with times that are different from all of the guide books and online stuff (fodors.com and frommers.com).
If you've taken a tour of the Napoli underground can you tell me which company you used, if it was in English and how you arranged for the tour? Also, what year did you take the tour?
Thanks folks.

We went on the Napolisotterranea tour (I think but it was the one you enter right off Via Tribunali) and it was fine as far as we were concerned.
We arranged for the tour by showing up at the ticket office and waiting around for the next tour in English. As I recall we were there last year in the late spring and while there were a number of people on the English tour (maybe 15-20) there was no problem in making arrangements.

We also took the Napoli Sotterranea tour (your first link) in June two years ago. We bought tickets on site for the first English tour of the day (just a short wait, IIRC). There were only about six people on our tour. We enjoyed it--one of the highlights of our visit to Naples.

One other suggestion if you are searching in that area of the historic center for a simple, good trattoria. Go to Antica Osteria Pisano in the piazzetta Crocelle ai Mannesi 1-4 which is right off Via Duomo just south of Via Tribunali.
Not fancy, but very good food at reasonable prices.
