Naples hotel??help!!
I am going nuts looking at hotels in Naples. Was going to stay at the Albergo Sansevero mainly because of its location. After the recent comments I feel I need to find another place. I will only be in Naples for two nights (only about a day and a half of sightseeing). My main goal here is to see the Arch Museum, the Cappella Sansevero (veiled Christ) and the streets of the Spaccanapoli. The hotels on the bay area seem too far from these and I don't see a metro close by either. I fear riding the bus will take too long. Has anyone stayed at Constantinople 104 or the Caravaggio Hotel? Is there a place close to a metro stop that is good? As you can tell, I am in a quandary. Is Naples too large to walk from the bay area to the area I am interested in?

I highly recommend Hotel Pinto Storey on Piazza Amadeo. It's right at a metro stop as well as the funiclare to Vomero. About 120E per night.
You can take the train from Rome to Mergellina, walk over one track and get the metro for one stop or go outside and get the bus.
Buon viaggio.

mimipam -- We booked thru ITWG.com, was very easy and you don't pay anything until you arrive.
Fodor's guide had a nice review. The rooms were all recently redone. It os alo close to the main shopping area.
I'm not familiar with transportation from the airport.

From Naples Airport to Hotel Pinto Storey: take the local orange bus to Piazza Garibaldi (Stazione Centrale), thence the Metro to the Piazza Amedeo Station, thence walk to the hotel closeby.
If you are interested in the Spaccanapoli District, you might be better off staying at the Albergo Sansevero or the more upscale Hotel Caravaggio, both of which are in the District. Otherwise, from the Pinto Storey, you'll have to take the metro and get off at Piazza Cavour near the Archeological Museum.

GAC -- Thanks for the clarification. We took the metro to Monesanto and walked down to Port d'Alba and thru Spacconapoli. Went to the museum on a different day from via Chiaia, after shopping.
mimipam -- Shame you only have 1 1/2 days, because IMO, the Reggia di Caserta is a very worthwhile day trip.

Hi GAC,
Have you stayed at the Caravaggio? I would like a personal reference as I have done web search. Is it too close to the Central Station--have heard it is very noisy in this area. Thanks for your help and the transportation directions.
mm41--We are in Naples primarily for the Arch Museum before we go to Pompeii and then on to Capri and Ravello. If I love this area as I think I will I will go back and do more.

Hi mimipam,
We were disappointed in the Albergo Sansevero, mainly because of the odor in the bathroom.
They do have two or three other properties, which might not have that problem.
Another hotel in the neighborhood is
Victoria House B&B
found at http://www.itwg.com/
Via Pessina, 66 80E/dbl ensuite w/bkfst
near Albergo Sansevero all amenities

Hi Mimi.
I really think that if you are only going to stay at Albergo Sansevero for 1 or 2 nights and you do not have to have top quality, you will be okay. The location is great for what you want to do. You can always stay your first night there and then if you find another hotel that you like better, check out and move. I think that you'll enjoy Napoli so much that the hotel will be secondary.
Have fun, I wish I were going back soon.

Hi mimipam, I'm glad you posted this question because I'm looking for a cental Naploi hotel as well, and have pretty much decided to ditch the idea of the Sansevero.
Ira: did you happen to see the Victoria House B&B while you where in Naples? How did it it look? Web pictures look pretty nice. I THINK it's also called (or at least connected with) Locanda Dell'Arte?

mimipam: Sorry, I havn't stayed at the Caravaggio, although the location would not be bad if you're largely interested in the Spaccanapoli District. However, this area is certainly VERY different from the Lungomare/Via Partenope/Santa Lucia District, as well as the area around the Pinto Storey. Some people have very strong opinions about where to stay (and where not to stay) in Central Naples.
