This past October, I stayed in the Albergo Sansevero Degas, just off the Piazza del Gesu in the historic center. It had clean, air-conditioned, spacious rooms decorated with new, matching wicker furniture, and the desk staff were very helpful. They have two other locations nearby - I saw the reception are at the main Albergo, off the Piazza Bellini, when I went to pay my bill (about $60/night?) by credit card, and it looked quite nice as well. See the "Rants & Raves" section for other comments.

Just got back from Naples. We stayed at the Holiday Inn but it is not in the city center. They do have a free shuttle to the center, railway station and to the airport. If you want something closer to the attractions, I would suggest the Miramare. It is in a great location and is right next to some much higher priced hotels.

We really liked the Hotel Miramare in Naples. It is on the waterfront and you can walk to the Royal Palace, Opera House and the wonderful coffee cafe, Gambrinus. The staff was the nicest I've just about ever encountered and breakfast on the rooftop garden is delightful.
