mykonos/santorini restaurants help

I am goint to Athens, Mykonos and Santorini next Monday with my husband two teenage kids and two other families with their kids. Would appreciate recommendations on good restaurants. We are from New York and sort of spoiled as far as restaurants go. I am looking for a mixture of upscale and casual places with good food.
Thanks

Both the "1800" and the Ambrosia in Oia on Santorini are upscale and of excellent quality. Also in Oia, The Thomas Grill, Katina's Fish Taverna at Amoudi below Oia, Laokasti Taverna, Skala Restaurant, Neptune and Pelekanos all offer excellent casual dining.

Some may call it touristy since it is in Plaka, but Taverna Xinos gets great reviews by locals as well as tourists. It is well known for its lemony stuffed grape leaves; they are delicious. It's on a little narrow lane--Odos Anghelou Gheronta 4. Locals go at 9 and later.

On Santorini, I recommend Selene and Sphinx, in Fira. Beautiful views.

In Mykonos town, we had a wonderful meal at Yves Klein Bleu, but this was a few years ago, and I'm not sure it's still there b/c I am unable to Google it.

I think your trip sounds wonderful: a perfect place for a family vacation.

Go to Ambrosia for sure while on Santorini; the food is a nice change from taverna food you are sure to dine on while in Greece. but taverna food is scrumptious as well!!!!!! the caldera setting is memorable.

you will surely enjoy Selene in Fira.
It's a beautiful restaurant and fi you have the time, you can take a half day cooking class with them.

I'm originally from NYC and a chef, so trust me when I say you'll love these given your tastes.

Have a wonderful time; you are going to LOVE Greece!

Thank you everybody for your recommendations. What about dress code in Greece. Do men need jackets in better restaurants?
Thanks

There's no dress codes in the restaurants mentioned. Casual dress is acceptable, but I've noticed that the patrons of 1800 seem to dress a 'notch' above the norm.

We ate twice at Bonatsa on Platy Yialos Beach when we were in Mykonos 2 weeks ago and loved it. There menu is smaller than the other beach restaurants but that is good because the quality of the meal was outstanding. I write a food column and I plan on featuring this restuarant next month. The service is great as well, and perfect for either a couple or a family as it is casual yet elegant.

Despite what you read here, I was not overly impressed with restaurants on Santorini. I took a lot of recommendations off of this website, and in my opinion, the food was just OK and rather suited to posh American palates and pocketbooks.

Haenelsski,
Then what do you recommend? Are there are any restaurants that were not mentioned here that we should go to.

We were in Santorini 2 years ago and went to Selene because everyone says it is the best. Yes the view, or position on the caldera, is great, but we were not impressed by the food.

We just returned last week from Santorini and were looking for a nice restaurant. We tried to get suggestions from our apartment owner. Selene is beautiful, expensive, but not perfect. She felt 1800 is good except the roof was closed this time of year, therfore no view. We walked from Anastasis to Fira and picked up some business cards along the way, then showed them to Despina. We ended up at Vanili. I think the spelling is wrong. It was fabulous. Food was great, wine great, atmosphere great, and not too expensive.

In Santorini, don't miss Candouni - wonderful food and service.
