Mykonos-beach or town??
I am going to Mykonos in July. I have heard that I should stay somewhere in town so I could be near all the restaurants, bars and shopping. On the other hand, I would really like to stay at the beach. Are the taxis and buses easy and convenient to town if I choose to stay at the beach? I dont want to be stuck at the beach at night time....

the hotels near town appeared very small and noisey. We stayed by Platios Yialos beach (the Petassos beach hotel) and a bus picked you up right in front of the hotel and went directly to town. however, more fun was renting a scooter and going into town about a 15 minute ride.

We stayed at the Zephyros Hotel ($70/night) at Paraga Beach, which is also a 10 minute walk from Paradise Beach. It is 3 star and the nicest, cleanest and most attractive hotel of our Greece and Turkey trip. The bus to town stops regularly, but we too rented a scooter ($10)and were very happy to have that freedom and flexiblity. It was also nice to be at the beach in the morning, before the crowds arrived from town.

I stayed at the Petinos Beach Hotel in 1989. It was new then and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very pretty and good location at the end of the bus stop in Plati Yialos. I also stayed at the Petasos Beach Hotel last year and loved it. The people there were so friendly and made us feel very welcome. The rooms were spacious and the bathrooms were modern. Our view was of the pool and the sea. The bus stops right in front of the hotel.

Hi Brett - i would not recommend staying in town. Mykonos is a very busy town and unless you like not sleeping i would recommend the beach hotels. The best hotel i ever stayed in in my entire life was in mykonos - Club Kivotos - it was pricey - i can't remenber how much, but i was on my honeymoon and didn't care. There was a bus to town about two blocks away and the beach was one block. If you can't afford to stay then at least try to take a look at the grounds - pure heaven!!!

The buses in Mykonos are good between town and other places... however, how late do they run? If you plan to take advantage of the nightlife in Mykonos (doesn't even get started until midnite), then you will want to be in town unless you have your own scooter or you want to spend money on taxis (which also run regularly and all nite). There are many good hotels in the Mykonos town area that are close, yet away from the hustle bustle and noise. I usually stay at the Leto Hotel, a great A class hotel. I've also stayed at Cavo Tagoo which is a 10 minute walk to town (and a little treacherous at nite). Hotel Magdelena is a C class hotel a little closer to town than Cavo Tagoo, but the walk is up a long hill. The view is beautiful, but the rooms (at least the one I saw) are very small. This year I plan on staying at Hotel Poseidon which is supposed to be nice, and away from the hustle bustle, yet still in town. Good luck and have a great trip. Debbie
