About 10 years ago I was an officer with a cadet Civil Air Patrol squadron and one of the parents arranged for us to try out the 747 simulator at Boeing in Seattle. After all the kids were done I got to try my hand at "piloting" it into a landing at Seatac. After several big bounces and a final crash, I decided I'd stick to being a passenger Definitely an experience I'll never forget!

In the late 60's and 70's, I was able to fly in the "back seats" of USN TA-4, F-4 and F-14.
That's the real deal and far removed from an airborn bus.

In the early eighties as a child I used to fly domestically with Qantas a lot. It was routine for the stewardess to offer my brother and I a colouring-in book and crayons, with an offer to come to the pointy end to meet the pilot whilst in the air. We must have done this 10 to 15 times. I recall really enjoying this experience. The strange thing is that as I have got older I have become more and more afraid of flying. A fear I attribute to turbulence and not terrorists.
