The weather is supposed to be the best in terms of rainfall and sunshine in august. yes it is crowded then, but all of the restaurants and shops will be open for the season and you will see the beaches and riviera at its peak. Definitely continue with your plans and don't be discoraged unless you want to go when it's extremely quiet and want the beaches to be empty.
bill

The only way I'd do the French Riviera in August would be to book into a nice place right on the coast and just stay there. Touring is going to be a nightmare unless your idea of a great time is traffic.

But you're going to be on your honeymoon, so hanging out may be just your cup of tea. You could try Les Roches Blanches in Cassis (nice website at http://www.roches-blanches-cassis.com/), or you could get a place in Nice and just experience the town on foot.
