Hi ericjdaniels,

My time in Rome was during the winter so the cold weather influences my answer. I enjoyed the sidewalk enclosed patio outside Harry's Bar on the Via Veneto.

Watching the people and the cars became hypnotic.

Have a great trip,

==Mike

Yeah, LoveItaly, my husband, son, and I stopped at that cafe on the corner of Piazza Barbarini and Via Veneto one evening to kill time till our restaurant opened at 8. Well we blew the price of several meals by sitting and ordering Cokes and coffee. I thought my husband was going to have a stroke when he got the bill. We should have learned in Paris when they charged us $9 for a Diet Coke for our daughter in a restaurant that was not happy that we didn't order a big meal.

Sitting at an outdoor table in the neighborhood just west of Piazza Navonna, eating linguine con vongole and drinking the vino rosso della casa. And going over trip report notes with Ms. Go and Allie Go!

Ah mendota, Harry's Bar at the top of the Via Veneto. Beautiful memories. Another great "people watching" place.

And tcreath and gracie, the cafes in the Piazza Rotunda. Oh yes, another wonderful spot. Doesn't bella Roma have too many of them. We all need a year in Rome.

rbnwdln, I am sorry you had such a miserable experience at the cafe at the corner of Piazza Barberini. We always just had their espresso (espressi for plural). And a few times at the end of the afternoon a campari. I don't drink Pepsi/Coke etc. so I have no idea what the charge is. A glass of wine is much less expensive. I love walking on the Via Condotti also, isn't that a fabulous street. And the bridges over the Tiber River. Oh sigh, wish I was there now. I am sure you will so enjoy Rome in June. Have a wonderful time!

From reading all the post it appears all of us enjoy Rome and most of us do like some down time, to just relax and absorb this fantastic city. I sure do.

Happy travels and memories everyone.
