As much as Parisians love their pets, can anyone direct me to a neat shop that caters to the felines? I know the doggies win the day, but Pink needs a goodie from Paris! He loved the Harrod's treats!

Our kitties didn't even like their Harrod's treats, but you might want to consider Left Bank pate (canned?).

There must be more info for cat lovers.

Mosey, Harrod's treats were not tasty to your cats? Our "Tom" is very finnicky....so I guess I will have to look elsewhere when in London. Judy ;-)

Along the river near Samaritain is basically pet shop alley. I'm sure they sell treats for your kitty.

Celia, I don't have any advice to offer but I do have to say how happy I am to see your post. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks of her pets while away on vacation - and wants to bring them a souvenir. At least we still go away, not like the woman in Quicksilver's post. <BR> <BR>Have a great trip and don't forget to bring something fun back for yourself as well!

My cats get very sniffy with me when I get my suitcases out and pack to go away. They hide under the bed and refuse to come out and if they do, they totally ignore me. (usually they're very affectionate) Do anyone else's cats do the same?

Not sure about specific stores in Paris, but I always try to bring back a can of local supermarket kitty food (canned)for Anabelle Conchita. One time coming in from Germany, the customs guy seemed convinced that I must be smuggling in drugs or something via cans of catfood (I always get pulled over in line. Must fit some profile) ...Maybe he just couldn't believe someone would actually tote catfood home. <BR>My kitty always gets a kick out of it though!

Yes, Zoe..."Tom" gets so upset, he deliberately tries to lay in the suitcases,,,,get hair all over! Go figure! Judy ;-)

Lori, above, mentions the pet stores on the Quai near the Samaritain Department store. My wife was thrown out of one of those pet stores for spending too much time admiring the Bishons because she missed our Gigi Marie and because it was closing time. Served her right.

Cleo and Alex also get upset - Alex especially is very suspicious of change. When we were away for 3 weeks last fall, we had a friend housesitting. He lived in our house and Cleo made friends with him quickly. Alex on the other hand, barely came out from under the bed. I missed them a lot when we travel (and it helps if our hotel or pension has a cat or 2). They usually snub us when we get back, but I also know that when we're away, they just sleep a little more - probably 20 hours instead of their customary 18!

Hi - count me as another cat person . . . <BR> <BR>Another vote for hitting the supermarket. Whiskas and some other brands now have single-serving pouches which are lightweight to carry home, as well as the little Sheba foil tins. <BR> <BR>The best thing is all the whacked-out flavors of cat food in Europe. Rabbit (lapin) is always a hit with my birman; so is all the offal meat (look for heart, coeur). Cats dig it! <BR>Miaou!

I brought home Whiskas Cats Milk from the Netherlands for my cats. They don't have this product in the US and my cats loved it. It is packaged in juice-box type containers. Walking around Paris we also saw a few pet stores - and of course the earlier suggestions for just hitting a supermarket sound good. Your cat will probably be impressed by a French lable, even if the food in the can is pretty much the same as US food.

Speaking of those interesting labels... <BR>You could soak them off (after the fact) and decoupage them into a kitty tray (or something!) for her continuing pleasure...maybe for Valentines day? <BR> <BR>(And Judy, my kitty helps me pack too...I always discover little fur fluffs on my packed clothing. I wonder if one has to claim those as animal products?)

Another cat-lover jumping in here! Of course the very best present you can bring home for your baby is YOU!! My four "children" just go nuts when we arrive home after a long trip out of town. This past fall, they all four jumped on the blankets the first night we were home, camped out and purred like motors all night long. It was like having a massage bed without having to insert a quarter!

Thanks, everyone! Pinkerton is a red persian and weigh 13lbs. He plops into my suitcase the minute I get it out andI just pack around him. He look like he's saying"Where's MY stuff?" So, I'll fill this space with goodies from the French Markets! Thanks!

This is a *very* old post - I am interested if there are any special pet shops in Paris where I could get my kitty a gift? Are the little shops near Samaritaine still there?
