MXP to Venice - time to allow to get to Milano Centrale?

Hi - I am a long-time lurker but now I have an actual question. I will be flying into MXP in early July from EWR and am scheduled to arrive at 8:40 AM. I would like to travel straight onto Venice same-day. As this is just about 120 days away, I would like to snag a 9 Euro ticket. Would it be fairly safe to buy a discounted ticket from Milano Centrale to Venice at 1:05 PM?

(I realize nothing is completely safe, but I am willing to take the chance of eating the ticket and losing 9 Euros to avoid buying a full-priced ticket if there is, say, a 75 percent chance or more I can make the connection.)

Thanks!
SD

Sorry - just wanted to add that I will be traveling solo and carry-on only.

Thanks in advance,
SD

Yes, that should be very safe. If you arrive on time, you should be able to get to Milano Centrale by 10:AM, maybe enough time for you to stuff your bags in a locker and take the subway down to the Duomo for an hour in between trains. If you are two hours late, you would still get there by about noon. Centrale is a huge but efficient train station.

Andrew,

Thanks for your response - that helps a good deal.

I think that a €9 ticket is certainly worth risking the loss. I would plan an hour to get out of the airport, an hour to get to Milan Central, and half an hour for the unexpected.

Eastbound transatlantic flights arrive early more often than late; no guarantees, though.

Thanks! I figured the same and I have yet to be on an eastbound transatlantic that has arrived late (knock on wood).
