"Must sees" in Provence?
Looking for advice on what not to miss during quick weekend trip to Provence. What villages/towns do we need to visit? Shopping & dining recos would be great. Also, what is best airport to arrive at if flying in from London? Thanks

Nancy:
Fly into marseilles from there aix en provence/avignon/gordes/orange/menerbe/rousillon/glunum/les baux/st remy de provence and for a shopping spree, go during the the weekend to I'lle sur la Sourge, where the whole town is a "flea market". You'll love it! There is a great restaurant there where there is a small river that flows under the restaurant- I can't remember the name. But enjoy!
marilyn

Nancy,

I live outside of Les Baux, and since you've said it's only a 'quick weekend trip', here are my suggestions. Just one question - are you arriving on a Friday or Saturday ?

I'd suggest flying into Nimes if possible. If you're arriving in the morning, from the airport drive directly to the Pont du Gard which isn't far from Nimes and visit the village of Uzes nearby.

From there drive to either Arles or St. Remy (spending the night there)and visit those as well as Les Baux.

Next day I would suggest a tour of the Luberon villages - l'Isle sur la Sorgue (Sunday morning is the big market plus an antiques market), Gordes, the Abbaye de Senanque and Roussillon. Perhaps a few hours in the late afternoon in Avignon or Villeneuve lez Avignon.

PB

Hi, Nancy,

The restaurant that Marilyn couldn't remember the name of is Prévôté. The Sorgue River runs right through the center of the dining room. (4 rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue; 011-33-4-90-38-57-29).

I second the recommendations on Pont du Gard and Arles. Haven't been to the other places yet, but friends really liked Gordes as well. A nice place to stay in Arles is the Jules Cesar (but it often requiresd reservations far in advance).

Have a great trip.

John H
