Museum Pass

Is it really worth it to purchase a 2 day museum pass. Can one really visit enough sites to make it worth it or just avoiding lines worth it. I will be their over a weekend that have free Sunday entry. I was thinking of getting the pass for Friday and Saturday. Sunday Free day could be for what I would like to go back and see. Is it very crowded on Free days. Is it less crowded the few days before the free sunday. Thanks Gail

Is it really worth it - depends on which and how many museums you want to visit. Did you look at each individual museum's website to find out what the admission fee is? Do the math and decide for yourself.

When will you be in Paris? Will it be over a French holiday? It's probably less crowded right now during the winter time. But even the time of day can have an impact on the length of the lines. As for Louvre, you can always try the other entrances which tend to have fewer people. Last fall we visited Louvre by entering through the Porte des Lion entrance and we encountered no line.

obviously do the math, but imo it is worth it for the 2 day pass just to skip the lines. it also allowed us the freedom to pop into museums we might have thought twice about due to the cost. i loved that!

have fun, gail!

I avoid lines by using the Louvre entrance in the Carosel de Louvre shopping center. I pick up tickets to other museums at FNAC. I can only takeso much culture in one day so I'd never get my money's worth from a pass

The museum pass website lists the admission fees and hours for each participating museum so you can pretty easily add up the fees for what you want to see and compare it to the cost of the pass. If it's close to a wash, then I'd get the pass just to bypass the lines. I also find that having the pass makes it easier to see more--I can just "stop in" to a museum that might not have been on my list for example.

Yes, the free Sundays will be mmuch more crowded than the days before, at least that's been my experience.

I have to agree that whether it's worth it is a very individual thing. But, FWIW, my daughter and I bought the two day passes when we were there two years ago and, for us, it very definitely was worth it. Among other things, we found ourselves going to (and enjoying) places we probably would've missed had we not had the pass.

It depends on how many museums you are visiting and also on your cost/benefit profile.

The actual cost comparison can simply be done by adding individual cost vs. the pass.

The cost/benefit angle can only be done by you. One couple I know would rather want to spend an hour or more in a waiting line than paying 4EU more. I would pay more to have an "option" of skipping the line if there is one. I am not saying my approach is recommended or right. Each one decides what has value beyond Euro differences.

Another place with a long ticket line is Versailles.
