Munich to Lindau to ???

Our trip starts September 20, 2009. We will have a rental car. Length of trip to be decided.

So far, I have made reservations in Munich for 3 nights and then 6 nights in Lindau. Now I am looking for somewhere in the Berchtesgaden area.

These are the places we visited in 2006:

Munich – Marienplatz, Schloss Nyphemburg
Rothenburg – Nightwatchman’s tour and town
Schwangau – Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau, Zugspitz, Lech Falls, Linderhof
Oberamgau – city walk and a church there
Grassau – Herrenchiemsee palace (both islands), Eagle’s Nest, Hohenwerfen Fortress
Day trip to Salzburg – Fortress in Salzburg and Helbrunn

I think the Berchtesgaden area is the area we want to go since we would like to revisit Salzburg.

What we are looking for in accommodations:

Internet connection, room with views (mountain or water), either a property allowing smoking or room with balcony/terrace both for smoking and relaxing.

We are not certain on things we want to do – any ideas would be welcome. We are not hikers, short casual type walks are fine. We love scenery – any kind.

Suggestions on minimum nights to spend in this area? I know this will also depend on what we decide to do.

Don't know why you are staying in Lindau for 6 nights. I assume you are planning to tour around Bodensee and other day trips? I would think you could do most of what you'd want in less than 6 days.

Instead of Berchtesgaden, why don't you stay for 4 or 5 days in St. Gilgen on Wolfgangsee? It is really gorgeous and there are lots of things to do in the area as well as day tripping to Salzburg and Berchtesgaden.

Disagree. One could easily be happy and busy on the Bodensee for a fortnight or more. 6 nights, = 5 full days, are definitely not too long.

quokka, I agree with you IF the poster plans to tour all the interesting towns around Bodensee (I think that's what i already said, isn't it?). If not, I don't know why you would want to stay for 6 nights.

Hi Lydia,
I'd suggest Ramsau in the Berchtesgaden area. We stayed here twice (Oct. '06 and Oct. '07) at the Mayringerlehen and loved it! Can't wait to go back! Places to see from here:
Berchtesgaden (10 min. drive)
Konigsee (15 min. drive)
Bad Reichenhall (20 min. drive)
Salzburg (30 min. drive)
Ludwig's Neues Scloss/Herrenchiemsee (1 hr. drive)
Hallstatt, etc. (1:30 in. drive)
Zell am See (1:30 min. drive)

You could also do the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse for a day long trip.

Hope this helps.
