Munich Hotels
Hi - Do any of you have hotel suggestions for Munich? We will spend two and a half days there next month, and I can't figure out where we should stay considering what we're planning to do there. The things we want to see are not close together. And we'll have a car, so parking is a concern. We're planning to visit the Viktualienmarkt, Dachau and the BMW Factory for sure. I would also like to visit Andechs monastery and the Englischer Garden if we have time. I think it would be nice to stay near the Viktualienmarkt, but am concerned about parking. We'd like to stay in a moderately priced locally owned hotel.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Just around the corner from the Viktualenmarkt on Talstrasse (Tal connects Marienplatz with Isartor) is a smallish hotel we have enjoyed several times. It is called Hotel Schlicker. Occupies two narrow buildings. If you can get a room in the structure away from Talstrasse, I am sure it would be quiet. Sorry, I don't have their email address, but you might use a search engine.

hi sara,

there were 4 of us from florida there last year. as the Al suggested, i used search engines for our trip. i used a good site for planning around most of europe. It is called nethotels and it has a local call center in munich.

http://bayern.nethotels.com/english

It lists over 15000 hotels, b&b's in europe and 450 in munich/bavaria. You can select the specific areas and prices that you are looking for.

You are able to view the properties
and rooms. Prices are listed and information given on how to contact them. If you do not find anything from these 450, they also feature a local telephone call center in munich which can find your hotel for you.

I found it an invaluable resource.

Hope this helps.

This is also a FREE SERVICE from them.

happy travels

nudge

Hi Sara,
I can highly recommend the Hotel am Markt. It's an old, locally owned, small hotel direct on the Viktualienmarkt. When I was singing at the opera in Munich (many years ago) I stayed there often, probably more than 100 times. It is still owned by the same people, an arts loving, opera loving couple who remembered me when I booked my stay there for June. I don't remember what the parking situation is, but I drove my car all the time.

All your other locations are, indeed, spaced far apart. Don't miss Andechs if you like beer. It comes from their own brewery, stored in wooden kegs and passed to the bar taps through wooden pipes. Ausgezeichnet!
Hope this helps.
John

Hopefully you are ahead of me, but have you booked your tour of the BMW factory? We were told you could do it there on a day or two's notice, but when we tried, they said all tours were booked for at least two weeks, so we missed it. By the way, do also see the BMW museum, not at the factory, but a separate entity and very interesting.
We stayed at the Hotel Platzl, very near the Hofbrau House and a couple of blocks from Marienplatz. We liked it very much and they do have parking.

While in Munich we had a really nice stay at the Hotel Wallis. It is located across the street from the Opera House, great breakfast, quiet, decorated Bavarian style, nice staff, parking next door, walking distance to Marienplatz, reasonably priced, we loved it. Their website is http://www.cosy-hotels.com/hotels/hotel-218.htm
