Have you already been there? You've hit the nail on the head -- especially with the last two.

My most memorable moment in Sicily - oh boy - that's a tough choice. I guess it would be standing in the wind at the top of the hill town Castanea (above Messina) in front of the house where my father was born and looking down to the ocean. An old woman who lives in the house brought us inside and showed us around - the place still had a dirt floor!!!

Lisa was right. I would add one more to the list. Our first sight of Mt.Etna from the north with snow at the top and wild flowers blooming on the hill in front of the mountain.

They seem so much brighter in Sicily.

Sitting at the terrace of our hotel room at the San Domenico Palace in Taormina and taking in the view of the Greek Theatre on the left, the sea in front of us and the flowers all around.

The gelato!

Lina, You hit the nail for me. That small bar in Castelmola just before sunset was magical.

The first sunset of our honeymoon sitting on a large terrace at Hotel Lisca Bianca, Panarea, downing a great bottle of red whilst watching the activity at the port and the ferries come and go and then suddenly noticing the lava spurts in the distance from Stromboli. Wonderful.

Late afternoon, driving on the autostrada toward Messina, we exit a short tunnel and see the city of Messina below us, the Straits of Messina, incredibly blue, and the sun illuminating the mainland of Italy, so close we felt we could touch it.

Seeing the lights of Calabria in the evening from my balcony at Pensione Svizzera. My father is from Calabria, and due to the short length of the trip I was unable to go and see his home town. It has just made me long to go there the next time I am in Italy.

My most memorable moments in Sicily are in Siracusa, Ortygia, at night, having coffee across from the Duomo; Walking the streets & exploring the old fisherman's village in Cefalu; Sitting by the ocean in Taormina at night, having a drink; Visiting the Valley of the Temples; Driving in Palermo traffic next to the donkey carts carrying produce. Also you've hit it on the spot regarding colors, commotion, & scents in Palermo. The city of Palermo is an unforgettable experience unlike anywhere in Sicily. The people and the surroundings are an exceptional and memorable experience.

3 things:

- The lovely medieval town Castelmola with its narrow streets and beautiful sights.
We've reached Castelmola by climbing the whole 3 km from Taormina, the sights we saw from here are quite astonishing.

- Caltagirone with its Scala, where i asked my girlfriend Sofie to be with me forever!!

- Taormina with the sun on your face strolling down the Corso Umberto after eating a bruscetta in a tiny bar which name slips my mind right now.

In Acireale on a breezy warm sunny Sunday afternoon, my son playing with Italian children - people offering him balloons and treats while overlooking the crystal blue ocean and the magnificent view - I told my husband we were having another addition to the family (a girl!) People came over and congratulated us and then there was a wee man at his cafe who presented us with a delicious dessert and cafe free of charge to celebrate (gelato fragola for our wee boy). Perfect day.

I lived in small town on Mt Etna and it was just wonderful sitting on our balcony and watching the sunset over the orange groves next to our villa.
