I stayed a few days in Pienza a couple of months ago. It is not nearly so hilly as Montepulciano and can be walked end to end in thirty minutes. Parking is not a problem and one can get on the highways with ease. Pienza has a wonderful main piazza and one of my favorite restaurants in Italy, Il Rossellino, a mom and pop place seating 12. (Closed Thursdays.)

All of those towns are close to each other. Pienza & San Quirico would be good places to stay because they are flat, parking is quite easy, and they are between Montepulciano & Montalcino. Our closest friends have a second home in San Quirico, and we stay with them quite often.

We chose Pienza because of a family member's knee problem. I would rather have stayed in someplace more interesting.

Gee - I always thought Pienza was interesting. What towns in that area would you rathar have stayed in??? Rome, Venice, Florence, & Siena don't count as answers - different animal.

montrealvic when are you hoping to go? I am heading to Europe from Toronto in a week (!!!!!!) and will stay in Montepulciano the week of March 12-19, when I hope also to fulfil a longstanding intention of mine (since 1974) to visit Pienza --

I can debrief later. Not to intimate that the other posters, who already know this are well, are not perfectly authoritative. But I may have the latest news and advice....
