Mont Saint Michel Evening Tour

Has anyone been on the Mont Saint Michel evening tour? I understand that now there is one with music and candle light.

We went on an evening tour of the abbey at the top of le Mont St. Michel. It was interesting. It started at sunset--great view from the top!! I recall that it was a guided tour through the abbey and chapel. Along the way there was wierd music and lighting, strange displays, very artsy. I would do it again but it wasn't what I expected from a "evening tour" of the abbey. It may be different now (that was three years ago).

Sally, glad you mentioned evening tour as we'll be staying on the Mont and did not know of one. There is, however, a son-et-lumiere (sound & light show)and I wonder if these are as good as those I'll see at Loire chateaux.

Why not contact the Mont St. Michel Tourist Office: T.= 2 33 60 14 30 and Fax = 2 33 60 06 75. They sent me a wealth of info. including, "Horaines des Marees",(tide schedule).

Emily and Debbie,
Thanks for your help. I will try to get more info from the tourist ofice. Did you have to book ahead for the tour or the sound and light show. What exactly is a sound and light show?

Sally, in the Loire the sound and light shows are made of local actors, some 300 in some chateau, horses, real costumes playing out an exciting theme. Blois has a light show (no actors)where you walk around and HUGE historic images are laser beamed onto the chateau walls. One brochure showed me this chateau all beamed up as one big package with lovely heavy gilted roping. Picture looked interesting. After doing much research on each show I've planned this part of trip around two son-et-luminiere we will see: Blois and Amboise. I need to find out more information on the one at Mont St. Michel. I doubt it's elaborate with horses and such, probably more low key. Got "Visites & Decouvertes" from Touraine Val De Loire tourist office which lists all chateau light shows with times and cost. Brochure also lists monuments, museums and other events. Tourist office: Fax: 2-47 31 42 76/ E.Mail:
[email protected] and T: 2 47 31 47 48 Good luck!
