Has the Mont Blanc Tunnel reopened?

We recently returned from France, and I am sure they told us they doubted that it would ever reopen.

It is due to reopen in September, although it might be delayed due to the debate on whether trucks will be allowed through it or not.

Going thru this tunnel (in 1986) was one of the scariest things I have ever done...narrow lanes, (only two), few lights, and a small opening, (the tope of the tunnel, only dirt, was not too far from the roof of our car...ANDit seemed to go on and on forever. My clostrophopia kicked in big time. Can anyone who has been there recently tell lme what it is like now. Thanks

After posting this question, I found a site for the Chamonix tourism office, the town at the French side of the mountain. I e-mailed them and asked, and their reply was that it is sometimes open, but is scheduled to open in the autumn. We'll see!
