VAT tax question

We are leaving Barcelona by Air France at 7:50 am and arrive in Paris at 9:45 am. Our Air France flight to Toronto leaves Paris for Toronto at 10:40 am.

How difficult will it be to apply for the VAT tax refund?

Thanks.

It depends on how long the line is. At this time of year, it can cause problems when the connection is short.

Ask the store where you bought your goods for the refund form and follow the instructions.

Are you trying to detax items from Spain or items from France?

Usually, you have your tax forms stamped in the last EU country you visit. Since the detaxe office at CDG is on the check-in side of the airport you would definitely not have time to exit, visit the detaxe and get back through security to get to your gate.

You may want to inquire if there are any provisions for early AM tax claims in Barcelona.

There's a big change that you're not going to be able to do it. I've been having detaxe papers stamped regularly for decades and the line is usually long, but even if it isn't the workers move at snail's pace. I just had some done in April, when it's not as crowded as it is in summer and it was ridiculous how long it took compared to the number of people in line. Happy Travels!

Thanks, MademoiselleFifi. Perhaps on my next trip I can manage to only buy items which will fit in my carry on and use one of those desks. I'll bet they have shorter lines!

I do think, for the OP, that 55 miniutes may not be enough time and recommend she get the paperwork done in Barcelona.

Hi NTO,

With only 0:45 hr at CDG, you will be lucky to make your plane to Toronto.

Good luck.
