misc provence questions

1) For a day that includes Uzes and Pont du Gard at the start of it, how long might I anticipate being at each of those stops? (Moving on to Arles afterwards.)

2) Michelin Green Guide says that access is restricted in the Alpilles until Sept 15 due to high risk of fire - what will I still be able to see in this region?

3) What foods do y'all suggest we try from the markets for picnic lunches?

Thanks!

1. Uzes & Pont du Gard. You could spend as little as 1-2 hours in Uzes depending on your interests and the shop hours. Pont du Gard is subject to your interests in the very fascinating and illuminating museum which is on the grounds. We hiked about the Pont for 45 minutes or so but spent 1 1/2 hrs in the museum and could have spent more.
2. I haven't been in this area while it is closed but you will be able to visit Les Baux which is a must--just not hike, bike and maybe even drive thru the very small roads. There are olive mills and wineries in the are to visit as well along with small towns.
3. What do you like? Olives, fruits in season(melons, grapes, strawberries, peaches, pears), tapenades, rotisserie chicken, grilled eggplant in tomato sauce, all sorts of cheeses/chevre, breads of all sorts, tomatoes, paella sold in containers, salamis and sausages, pizza, wines The possibilities are endless limited mostly by your implements and imagination. Have fun-Paul

Sorry about that.

1) Where will you be starting from that day and where will you finish? Are you spending the night in Arles with tine to look around the next day? I think you can do all three in one day if you start early. Uzes is great for lunch, but it might be better to look around and pick something to eat at Pont du Gard. Then move on to Arles early in the afternoon.

2) You will still be able to get around Les Alpilles. You will not have to cancel plans unless they include some off road spots. St. Remy, Les Baux, etc. will still be fine.

3) Many choices for picnics. Find what you like at a market. Find sandwiches. WE picked up sandwiches from a stip center of the autoroute when we went to Pont du Gard and ate while looking out over the river.

Have a blast.

A lot of people also like to swim under the Pont du Gard -- this can radically change the amount of time you spend there.

Uzes is a lovely town. I'd give it several hours, at least.

To give an indication of time -

I often take visitors on a trip, Uzes - Pont du Gard - Nimes. It is a longish day, but probably just enough time for each.

And just to be pedantic : all the above are in Languedoc, not provence
