Millenium

I've heard rumours that there will be a great tide of people going to Europe in the summer of 2000. Do you think it will be much busier than usual? (I'm wondering if it would be safer to book hotel rooms now, rather than trusting my luck to find a B&B as we go along.) <BR>Any thoughts on this?

Italy is expecting an increase of almost 50% in their tourism in 2000. The Pope will declare a Jubilee at the end of December 1999, which is basically a 54 week party which occurs every millenium. A lot of people will be making a pilgrimage for the occasion. There is a lot of refurbishing and repair work going into the country in 1999 in order to prepare for the Jubilee. If you are planning on travelling to Italy in 2000, it's probably wise to look into reservations now.
