MIlan restaurants

My husband and I will be spending part of an afternoon and one evening in Milan on Saturday, January 30, prior to an early morning flight from Malpensa. We will be staying at the UNA Century Hotel Milan near the Central Station. We plan to go to the Duomo and walk around the key sites in that area.

Can anyone recommend a place for dinner either near the Duomo or near our hotel?

Thank you.

You should state your budget and what you like to eat, and whether you would prefer a classic Milanese dinner or something else.

The area around the Central train station is not a great one for restaurants. However, the Milanese dinner hour really does not start until 8pm, so you will probably want to factor in the cost of a taxi ride back to your hotel from a good restaurant.

Thank you for your suggestions.

A classic Milanese dinner, or at least Italian, would be very nice. We will not have very dressy clothes, as we're returning from a ski trip. We'll have nice sweaters and slacks.

Therefore, we're not looking for elegant dining. Just a good meal--definitely under $100.

Avoid the area directly around the central station. its a bit dodgy.

go to luini pizza and panzerotti place just behind the duomo. ask anyone they ll tell you where it is.

"dove e luini" where is luini.

a great restaurant is La madonnina near the navigli, the canal area. very nice. get a tram and it will take you there. book in advance its typical milanese food in an old farmhouse, one of the few still standing in milan city!!
the menu is sort of limited they cook what they get basically but you wont be dissapointed!

avoid eating in restaurants near the duomo they are all over priced, over rated and very turisty.

go for a wander near le colonne di san lorenzo and the navigli, nice at night with lots of cool bars and restaurants. bring stuff for mosquitoes in the summer though!

hope you haver a good time in milan.

You really need to make a reservation for this place, especially if you are going to be dining on a Saturday night. It is convenient by Metro to either the Central Station area or the area of the Duomo, but you will probably want a taxi home.

It is also not far from the Corso Como area if you'd like a drink beforehand among stylish bars.

It is not clear what people mean when they use the term "dodgy," but tourists are not unsafe around the Central Station. There is visible poverty around the train station, and some visible vice if you know what you're looking at (drug sales, prostitution) but nothing dangerous.
