Milan or Geneva?

If you had only 1 day and could visit either Milan or Geneva, which would you go to? Shopping, sightseeing, restaurants should all be considered.
Only been to Geneva once for brief time--it is certainly much prettier that Milan. Milan was heavily bombed in WWII so is mostly post war highrises, actually, low highrises--not like ours. The cathedral is lovely and the Sforza Fortress is interesting but that's it. Shopping is elegant and horribly expensive, but I think it might be in Geneva also. There are some good restaurants in Milan but also Geneva. I think it's pretty much of a toss up, but I would choose Geneva.
Milan and Geneva are northern, efficient, business cities. Geneva is much prettier; Milan has better food, in my opinion. The Breara Museum in Milan is wonderful. Go to both! Carol L

Any suggestions on what to do on a one-day visit to Geneva? I will be visiting in October.

If you enjoy shopping most, then you should go to Milan. But if you would like a more relaxing trip, then Geneva is the place for you.
Having studied in Switzerland for 3 years, I guess I would go to Geneva even for just a day. I would walk along rue du Rhone for some shopping, enjoy the view, and then eat at Movenpick.
I used to go to Milan on weekends and it was very hectic. One day is not enough to enter all those fabulous shops. And eat gelato, too.
