Milan hotel recommendation

Can anyone recommend a 4 star hotel in Milan that is situated near the central station and near the Duomo? Is the neighborhood around the central station safe?

All of my bosses stay at the Le Meridien Excelsor Gallia which is about 50 meters from the Central Station. Doubt if they would stay there if it wasn't safe.

Sorry, that should be Excelsior Gallia. It is located at Piazza Duca d'Aosta 9.

The Central Station and the Duomo are not really located near each other; you would need to take a taxi or a tram between the two, which would take about 15-20 minutes. I do not consider them to be a walkable distance from each other. A very good hotel within walking distance of the Duomo (about 2 blocks) is:

Grand Hotel et de Milan
Via Manzoni 29
20121 Milan, Italy
Tel: (39-02) 723141
Fax: (39-02) 864-60861
website: lhw.com (enter Milan for city)

Another great hotel about mid-way between the station and the Duomo is:

Hotel Principe di Savoia
Piazza della Repubblica, 17
Tel: 0039 02 62301
Fax: 0039 02 6595838
website: lhw.com (enter Milan for city)

This was a Sheraton until recently. They have a very good spa.

Both these hotels are somewhere between 4-5 stars. Both are members of the Leading Hotels of the World, always a good indication of quality.

If you want to go 5 star, the Four Seasons has a great location within walking distance of the Duomo and is of course a fabulous hotel.

I agree that the area around the central train station is safe, it is just not as interesting or convenient as neighborhoods near the Duomo.
