Milan - day trip question
We will be spending the last night of our trip to Italy at the Hotel First near the airport. My thought is to arrive at the Hotel in the am, turn in the car and take the train into Milan for a short visit. My question: is the train station within short walking distance to the cathedral and the other main attractions. This would just be a 3-4 four hour stay as my wife can not do a lot of walking. I don't want to finish the trip on a sour note if it's a big hassle getting in and out of the city and to the sights. We could always spend more time at the Lake ....any info would be appreciated.

Malpensa is about an hour outside of Milan.
The Milan Duomo from the train station is about a 10 minute cab ride. Alternatively, red line subway goes directly to Piazza Dumo as well. Cab is about 12 Euro.
Once you arrive at Piazza Duomo you will be very happy. See video of the area here:

You can enjoy right there, without a lot of walking, the Duomo, the Galleria, and La Scala opera house. After a few hours head back to the hotel.
IMO, Milan is way underrated.

The train from Malpensa to central Milan arrives at the Stazione Cadorna Nord which is about one mile from the Duomo. The bus from Malpensa arrives at the Stazione Centrale which is a little farther from the Duomo, perhaps 1.5 miles. You can take the metro from either station to the Duomo.

Hello,
I write you from Milan...
Get the train Malpensa - Milan. It takes about 45 minutes, trains every 30 minutes.
From the arrival station (Cadorna) you can walk to see tha castle (5 minuts), the Duomo /another 7 / 8 minutesm the Gallery (facing p.za Duomo) and crossing it you arrive in p.za Scala.
You can then go back to Cadorna station using undergraund (MM) red line from Duomo (Cathedral), 3 stops / 4 minutes / 1 euro!
Have a nice (short!) trip.
Gianni

Thank you for your replies. It sounds like it should be easy to do.... even for a couple of country bumpkins like us. Gianni, I think we will follow your plan and walk to the Duomo and then take the redline back to the station.
