Midnite Transport from Athens Airport

Will travel to Athens in late November. Connecting through Amsterdam (NW-KLM). The KLM flite arrives in Athens at 10 minutes after midnite. What kind of transportation would you recommend to the City? It's our first trip there, so a little nervous about arriving so late. (Also, any hotel recommendations for Athens?)

I'd take a cab. Athens is still wide awake at that hour, not to worry. The cab will cost a bit more at that hour, however. Recommend Acropolis View Hotel for a clean, friendly, well-located hotel; probably considered high end budget, no frills. Have fun in Greece!

Taxis in Athens are relatively cheap, but with the new airport I've read that it costs a lot more than the $12 or so fare from old airport into city. Perhaps only ~$22, which is still inexpensive from airport to center city, as compared to Paris, Rome, London, etc.

Taxis are cheap, but I'm not sure of their availability after midnight (or later if you get delayed). Whenever I'm flying into a foreign country with a late arrival, I also arrange for car pickup through the hotel concierge. I've done this several times in Athens. It was well worth the extra $$ and can usually be charged to your hotel room. With the new airport, the ride into the city is a lot longer than it used to be.

For an awesome view in Athens, stay at the St. George Lycabettus. I usually stay at the Andomeda Hotel near the US Embassy.

i am Greek & always get ripped off by Athens Taxi Drivers. The only way to get arund at 12mn is by taxi. Make sure you look at the meter reading at the start & end of your trip. They can charge a couple of extra Euros for luggage (no more than 5e) If they try to rip you off- tell then you'll call "100" (the cops) cuz its against the law !! P.S. I like Royal Olympic- is walking distance to Acropolis & Plaka- is very cean & elegantly decorated & not as expensive as some of Athen's other big wigs
