Meteora
In October I am going to Greece with 2 friends. We will stay in Athens for a few days and then we are planning to take the train to Meteora, so I am working on how to do this. I have registered on the Train OSE website, and have tried to get tickets from Athens to Kalambaka, the city near Meteora. However, they are not available. From what I have read, it seems as if tickets are only available about 4-6 weeks in the future. Is that correct, or do I need to do something else? Also, in Kalambaka I assume we will be able to take a bus or taxi to Hotel Doupani House. We are not sure about the next step. Would you recommend a tour to see the Monasteries or would it be easy for us to go on our own? Any other advice would be welcome! Thanks for your help.

Go here for loads of info on European train travel: https://www.seat61.com/index.html
In general (there are some exceptions), tickets are only available 60 days before travel.
I visited the monasteries on my own, using a taxi I arranged after I arrived in town.
