Menton, France?
Is anyone out there willing to offer his/her opinions of Menton, France?
My fiancee & I will honeymoon there next year (right before the Cannes film festival hits the South O' France). Ironically, we'll be attending ANOTHER wedding there...so it'll be sort of a "working" honeymoon (at least for a few days).
Any comments/tidbits will be greatly appreciated.

Ray,

Didn't go to Menton but spent some time in that area a couple of years ago. I heard Menton was nice. You mentioned Cannes--that is a bit of a hike from Menton. We went from Nice to Cannes on a bus and I would say it took about an hour. Don't exactly know how far Menton is from Nice but looking at the map I would guess at least half and hour to forty-five minutes. That would be added around one and a half and two hours to Cannes is my guess.

Don't know your other plans but if time is an issue (as far as getting it all in) I would tell you it wasn't worth the trip. Cannes was my least favorite part of that trip. Nothing bad happened, just wasn't really very special.

Hi there,
We stayed a few days in Menton a couple of years ago (I think it was around the end of April)...
The town is less touristy than some of its better known neighbors, seems to cater to an older set; I gather it was very big with British pensioners earlier in the century. There are good beaches, a nice small casino, and an old town with very pleasant walks and views, good old church. Orange trees in the town square, kids, pretty idyllic. Cannes or St. Tropez it isn't.
The city is located right on the Italian border, so quick forays into Italy are easy. Monaco is the nearest larger city to the west, Nice maybe 45 min. to an hour, Cannes another hour(?) by car (on the low road, not the autoroute up on the corniche.)
We enjoyed ourselves there a lot and would happily go back. Oh, I should mention it was a lot cheaper than Nice/Monte Carlo.
Bon voyage!
