medieval feast in London?

Someone told me there's a good place to have a medieval "feast" somewhere near the Tower of London. Does anyone know of this place or any others?

What are they like? Too touristy for words, or fun if you're with a kid who's on her first trip abroad?

Thanks.

Yes, there is a place on St. Katherine's Dock near Tower of London and Tower Thistle Hotel, I have the pamplet at home, and can write to you possibly tomorrow with more details. I was thinking of going there myself next time I go over. I believe it's a four course dinner w/unlimited beer/wine and entertainment. It's only in the evening about 7:45pm. Will get more details for you...

We went to something similar years ago in Ireland,(near the Blarney stone) and it was a great deal of fun, the food is so-so, but presented as "mead" in a wooden bowl, eat with fingers, straw on floor, rought plank tables, etc, and Irish music to die for, (a layde on the harp, vocals, etc) all in medieval costume. We thought it great fun. Of course it is "touristy", but, what the heck, you are a tourist, and the only place you can have that experience. Go for it.

Yes yes, my kids and I went to Beefeaters in London and it was GREAT!!!The atmosphere, the food was tasty and the acts in between each course were great. It was very well organized and put on. There is one main hall going down the middle with rooms off to the sides. In each little room is a huge trestle table of thick, dark wood and benches. The walls are stone and lit by torch light. The maidens come with song and food and artfully serve each course. The guests quickly get to know their neighbors because the pails are passed around. There was plenty of ale, water etc., to drink and the maids were very accomodating. Then at the end of the meal everyone got up from their table and created a huge line as we hung onto the maidens belts and tore through the chamber laughing hysterically. We still look those photos! Fun evening!

Did one a few years ago and yes, I found it too touristy for words; sorry if that makes me sound like a snob. Normally I don't mind touristy things but this was simply being packed in with mobs of tour groups and being served mediocre food. It was somewhere near the Tower of London. On the other hand, I loved Tiddy Dols in Shepherd's Market in Mayfair - a semi basement old restaurant with costumed servers, fun entertainment from time to time during the evening, and wonderful food. More 18th century -- not medieval. And the best gingerbread (more like a gooey pudding) I've ever eaten. Tiddy Dol was a famous gingerbread baker, if I remember the story right. This place was touristy, but great fun and good food.

About 10 years ago, I went to Coombe Abbey in Rugby for a Medieval banquet. This was an authentic 12th century monastery in the countryside that was raided by Oliver Cromwell in the 1600s. Call me a tourist...but I loved it! THe food was o.k., the music was great and everyone had fun. DEFINATELY great for kids.
