Marmaris vs. Istanbul

Will be coming from US for Greece honeymoon and would like a couple days in Turkey. What are these 2 like? I always thought Istanbul, but was told a day trip to coast from Greek islands works too.
Curious to hear from those who know Turkey well.

Hi jubileefd,

How and at which port are you going to arrive Marmaris or Istanbul? By flight or ferry? Also are you going to fly back to US from Istanbul? and what time is your flight?

Congratulations with the marriage and have fun with the honeymoon in Greece... Try to go Bodrum via Kos or Rhodos, Marmaris is not that interesting comparing, or Fethite via Rhodos, Cesme via Chios.....
Have fun and happy travelling,
Murat

I haven't been yet, but from research for our trip in July, I'd definitely recommend Istanbul over Marmaris.

From everything I've read, Marmaris is a built-up resort catering to tour packages, mostly from the UK. You could go to Bodrum from Marmaris, but it's at least a few hours away, and you'd probably have much more to do and see in Istanbul.
