I cant decide between Lucerne or Marcote. Any advise? I will be travelling from Zermatt by car. In any event, I will need to end up in Zurich for my trip home. I would have 3 days and 3 nights left of my trip. So where is it best to spend my time? Thanks, Ron

Ron, do you know that you will NOT be travelling from Zermatt by car? Vehicles are not allowed in Zermatt. You will park your car in Tuesch and take a train to Zermatt.

Just some hints to help you decide --

Luzern is a city on a lake ringed by mountains; Germanic in architecture, cuisine, & language.

Marcote is a tiny village on a lake with Italian heritage in architecture, gardens, cuisine, & language.

Why not go to www.webshots.com and do a photo search for each town and see which one grabs you?

Topping because this is a choice I don't often hear and because S' suggestion is excellent. You need to look at some pictures to see which one matches what you're looking for. The two areas are very different in atmosphere, architecture, cuisine, language, etc. (a Google image search can help.) Morcote is very small with a spectacular climb to a beautiful church. If you've lakeboat access, you'll be able to visit Gandria and Lugano. In addition, though I've not had personal experience, there are walks above Morcote to interesting villages.

Lucerne is beautiful as well, on a spectacular lake with its own assortment of daytrip possibilities. It is much closer to the Zurich flughafen. In fact, I understand that if your flight is not too early, you can stay in Lucerne the night before. Decisions decisions. J.
