Marbella - Gran Melia Don Pepe or Fuerte Miramar
I am torn between these two hotels for a visit to Marbella in October. I have searched the archives here but any info on them is 5/6 years old and I would appreciate any current information before making a booking.
I gather they are both within walking distance of the town centre so that's OK but does the Don Pepe's extra star make a real difference? Trip Advisor reports on both are mainly good.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

I am a 5 star traveller and when I am in Spain or the canaries or latin america I seek out the GRAN melias. They are always a cut above the rest. Ask about Planta Real or royal service its a club level that beats any other executive treatment going.
Also the Don Pepe is a spectacular hotel. Normally I am among the few fodorites who worships luxury, most are and probably rightly so, more interested in the trip rather than the hotel and of course there are great 4 star hotels too, especially in Europe because sometimes they are just missing a gym or pool to make them 5 star, not the service.
But lets face it your destination is a beach-golf hotel so relatively speaking you will be spending a lot of time at the hotel so pick a good one.

We stayed at the Fuerte Miramar and without a doubt, the best feature was the view. If you don't get a room facing the sea, it wouldn't be even worth staying there.
Don't know about Don Pepe, but I believe it's near the Marriott Marbella Beach Club, which is where we usually stay, and if you can, I'd say that the Marriott is much nicer, but I haven't stayed at Don Pepe, so don't really know what there rooms are like. However, neither of these are walking distance to town, whereas the Miramar is, if that's important.
