Map App in Tuscany

I will be in the Val d'Orcia (and driving there from Rome via Tarquinia and Pitigliano) and would like to use a phone app to get around. I have an Android. What app(s) do you recommend for this area?

In general Google maps. Just check if the towns you're visiting have any ZTL zones . Google and Waze have started to show them but they so far are only showing the larger cities so far.

I assume you know the various roadsigns. If not take the time to learn the standard signs. It'll minimize any chance of getting a ticket.

If you don't have data on your phone download the maps in advance.

TomTom has an app that shows speed limits and fixed radar (Plus other cameras) It can run on top of Google maps. It's free so no reason not to get it

Just assume every town you visit has a ZTL because it probably does.

GPS apps will generally take you on the most direct/shortest route between points. Because I prefer to drive on secondary, more interesting roads, and enjoy random detours, I still like to have a paper map to help in planning excursions.

Besides traffic signs, do learn how to recognize and interpret the ZTL signs.

Google or Here We Are. You can set either to avoid motorways, toll roads etc per trip. With Google you can add in stops and save a route on your phone so you can plan it out the day before. You can also choose kms or miles etc. You can also search for petrol stations, bakers, supermarkets cafe's etc.

Learn road signs and rules of the road, and look up ZTLs.

If you don't want Google tracking you in maps (and it will) you can turn off tracking. Saves you getting ads for the garage or the place where you ate. You used to be able tosave the route so you could put all the days together to show where you went over the course of your holiday, but that has been disbaled, so no point in having tracking on.

If you're logged in Google emails you every month with descriptions of where you've been. Towns visited. Distance traveled. Driven/walked.
