Manorola vs Vernazza

OK, OK, Yes, I am one of those folks that likes to plan to the Nth degree.

There have been a number of posts, all very helpful, re: the Cinque-Terre and which is the best village in which to stay.

Question: Will be in the CT 13 and 14 Nov. Have narrowed it down to Manorola or Vernazza. Which would all of you CT experts recommend? We want a quaint village but one that has a restaurant or two. Should we opt for Vernazza since most of the tourists will, hopefully, be gone? Is Manorola nice in the summer but dead or closed up in Nov?

This is the question that tries my soul.

We stayed in Manarola at Marina Piccolo and loved it, but it was quiet there even in the middle of summer. And other than our delightful hotel dining room which was strictly open air --so probabably not even open in Nov.-- there was only maybe one other real restaurant in town. So I would suggest that you will find a little more "action" in Vernazza.

Could you tell me a little more about the accommodations at Marina Piccolo? You mentioned it on a previous post, but I have been unable to find out anything about it. Alos, do you have an e-mail or fax number for Marina Piccolo?

It is a small hotel, right by the small rocky "harbor". As I recall there were about 12 to 15 rooms in two buildings. All have private baths. Their restaurant is a separate building, kind of open air, practically perched over the harbor. It was quaint and charming, not luxurious, and we loved it. The fax number I have is: 39-187-920966. That is from a couple of years ago and I know there have been a lot of phone changes. No email at that time, but I know they had a computer, so perhaps by now. . . Marina Piccola is the right name.

Hi Terry,

I wanted to add that my husband and I stayed at the Marina Piccola in July of 1999. We loved it!! Our room was basic, but nice - we would definitely stay there again. I am not sure what the place would be like in November, but I would take a chance. If the restaurant is open, you will be in for a treat. The seafood is spectacular!! My husband still talks about the crab linguine. We hiked over to Vernazza, and enjoyed our day there, but we were glad to be staying in Manarola. Again, we were there in July, so I don't really have any advice for this time of year. We decided to stay at the Marina Piccola, because of what I read on the website, They list the fax number on that site.
Have a great trip.

Thanks for the info. Since we will be in the CT 13 & 14 Nov. will probably staty in Vernazza. However, Manarola sounds great so may try to check it out to see if the Marina Piccola Hotel & restaurant is open and if so stay there.
