Mallorca in March

I loved the island in March when I was there eight years ago since it was so green. It is something that definitely you would not see in summer and the same for its tranquility that time as well, without summer partying crowds. Palma is the heart of the island, it is a very elegant and lively city with a wonderful cathedral and seafront. Bellver castle is also a must. Many places to go specially the Caves (Arta, Campanet, Drach, etc), the rugged west coast road including Torrent de Pareis winding road, the monasteries (Valldemossa, San Salvador, Lluch). Special mention to small towns as Fornalutx, Biniaraitx, Banyalbufar, etc or the walls of Alcudia. Formentor is also one of the most striking spots in the Mediterranean, being the highlight the view from Es Colomer viewpoint.

The weather in March can be a bit hit or miss, I've been there some years when its been warm, others wet and cool. But either way it's a lovely island - I've been going about 4-5 times a year for the last 20 years. If you want ideas of where to go, what to see and do, special small hotels and hideaway villas, best restaurants etc, have a look at my site www.i-escape.com - I've reviewed in detail all my favourite places, most of which are off the beaten track.

We used to go three times a year in Feb, March and May, that was before low costs flights become high cost.
It is a wonderful time, few tourist and locals with time to talk.
The weather is an issue. We have had anything between 2oC with very, very cold rain and 22oC and nearly warm enough to swim but definitely lazing about the beach weather. The weather in the mountains is generally worse on the west and north coast. We have driven from Santanyi in our shorts leaving 18oC and arrived in Valledemosa to 3oC and sleet.
